Why Do We Need a Tongue Cleaner?

Why can't we just brush our tongue and save the effort to make and the need to buy one more product? Three years ago, we asked the same questions. Here's what we found.

Dental research shows that daily tongue cleaning decreases the amount of plaque-causing bacteria that can lead to bad breath, gum disease, and tooth decay. The Preserve Tongue Cleaner has been proven in tests to freshen breath by killing bacteria 10 times more effectively than brushing alone.

The Preserve Tongue Cleaner has unique, deep-cleaning ribs to help maintain a happy and healthy mouth. It is designed to feel comfortable in your hand and to effectively remove bacteria that forms in the folds of your tongue.

We have also taken a minimalist approach to our tongue cleaner. It is much smaller than most tongue cleaners and scrapers while just as or more effective than others. The packaging is also designed to be as simple, small and "light" as possible. It uses easily recyclable, thin "polybags" (you can recycle them with your supermarket shopping bags) and low-weight, 100% recycled paper.

Innovative Design and Materials

The Preserve Tongue Cleaner is made of recycled polypropylene. This plastic material was chosen for its strength and flexibility. It is an efficiently recycled material--its strength does not break down in the recycling process. Polypropylene, labeled #5, is available in many sources of post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled plastics. Presently our main source is from recycled Stonyfield Farm yogurt cups. Polypropylene's recycling efficiency means it is commonly reprocessed and cleaned, and we have been able to hire the best in the business to recycle our plastics. After reprocessing, our post-consumer plastics are tested to confirm their cleanliness - this test is called a "foreign elements reading" which shows that our cleaned and reprocessed plastics have the same infinitesimal readings of foreign elements as virgin plastics.
