The AQUALIZER FLOATING ACTION ORAL SPLINT
NEW FIT CONFIGURATION,S MORE COMFORTABLE UNDER THE LIP
Patient Information
Easy-To-Use Instructions
The AQUALIZER'S NEW TECHNOLOGY IS A MAJOR breakthrough in pain therapy. Over one million patients have used AQUALIZERS for headache, neck or shoulder pain and stiffness, facial pain, problems moving the jaw or clicking in the temporomandibular joint, stuffiness of the ears and increased sensitivity to light. Like a waterbed, the AQUALIZER has a built-in, miniature, fluid system which "floats" the jaw. The floating action permits the muscles on both sides of your head to quickly move into their most natural, functional position. Pain diminishes rapidly as your head, neck and shoulder muscles relax profoundly. Within minutes, your muscles begin to rest and heal themselves. According to the principles of hydrodynamics, this enclosed fluid system is dynamic and interactive. As long as the AQUALIZER has sufficient water in it to completely separate your teeth, the AQUALIZER is self-adjusting and perfectly balances all occlusal forces.
REQUIREMENTS FOR USING THE AQUALIZER To benefit from the AQUALIZER, you must have enough back teeth to support the fluid pads and float the jaw. This generally requires upper and lower bicuspids and molars on both sides (wisdom teeth don't count). However, if only one of these teeth is missing, the AQUALIZER usually still works satisfactorily. WARNING: AQUALIZERS should be worn only by individuals having a normal gag reflex.
HOW TO WEAR THE AQUALIZER The AQUALIZER is worn on your upper dental arch. See the pictures on the package. Note that the AQUALIZER is tucked under the front upper lip with the fluid pads positioned between the upper and lower biting surfaces in the back. Your jaw should be floating on the fluid layer without your teeth contacting through the fluid layer. This ensures that the hydrostatic principle can work. After proper insertion, the muscles which control the position of your jaw will automatically slide your jaw to the most physiologic position for your body.
WHEN TO WEAR THE AQUALIZER Follow your therapist's instructions. Often, patients wear an AQUALIZER during sleep because eight hours of profound relaxation is usually enough to keep them painfree during the day. Other patients wear the AQUALIZER during daytime periods of stress or pain. If you feel your pain coming on, you can insert the AQUALIZER. Some therapists choose to have their patients wear an AQUALIZER during their treatments. Beyond an initial diagnostic period of full-time wear, AQUALIZERS should not be worn more than eight hours per 24 hour period. This will protect the oral tissues. To prolong its useful light, wear the AQUALIZER as little as you need to control your pain. AQUALIZERS may last up to several weeks, depending on how forcefully you clench or grind your teeth.
DO NOT WEAR THE AQUALIZER while eating or brushing your teeth. After wearing, clean your AQUALIZER with soap and water or mouthwash.
REPLACEMENT AQUALIZERS The AQUALIZER is a temporary, disposable oral splint. It is dramatically effective at relieving neuromuscular pain only as long as there is sufficient fluid to completely float the jaw. During wear, the AQUALIZER will gradually lose its fluid (water) through the microscopic pores of the plastic. If you have had your pain for a long period of time, your symptoms may start recurring when there isn't enough water to completely float the jaw. (Because your teeth are in contact through the fluid layer.) If this is the case, ask your therapist for additional AQUALIZERS.
IF IRRITATION DEVELOPS Remove the AQUALIZER if oral irritation or pain develops. Reinsert only after irritation subsides. Alternatively, invert the AQUALIZER and wear it on the lower jaw or pad the appropriate area of the AQUALIZER with orthodontic wax. If irritation or sever pain persists, discontinue using the AQUALIZER and tell your therapist.
